The 36 channels in Human Design

A channel is a structural element of the bodygraph: the mechanical bridge linking two centers. When it is defined (colored), energy flows there in a stable, consistent way.

• Two gates, one at each end, in two different centers.
• When both gates are activated in your chart, the channel is defined.
• A single gate does not form a channel: it stays a waiting theme, often completed in relationship or transit.

• It durably colors how you are (a reliable trait, not a mood).
• It helps determine which centers are colored.
• It feeds type, definition (single, split...), and sometimes authority.

Channels also sit in larger circuits (individual, tribal, collective): they describe how your energy impacts others, not only what you feel inside.

• Human Design: the channel describes mechanics (how you are designed to function).
• Gene Keys: the same gate number opens a consciousness spectrum (shadow, gift, siddhi).
